Wine on Deck helps Celebrate 25 Years at the East Coast Grill
A couple of years after moving to Boston after college, I quit my genetics research position at MIT’s Whitehead Institute, started a band, and got a job shucking oysters at the East Coast Grill (ECG) in Cambridge, MA. I knew something was right when i discovered that the ECG was owned by Chris Schlesinger, author of “The Thrill of the Grill”, a seminal cookbook. The Thrill of the Grill also happened to be my favorite cookbook as a teenager, when one of my chores was to cook dinner for the family Monday-Friday.
Eight years later, after being amicably canned for trying to get too many shifts covered and always wanting to be the one to go home on slow nights (my concert business was taking off), I still go to the Grill at least once a month for oysters and key lime pie.
Last Saturday, Maja and I got to give a gift to our beloved haunt: a curly maple and purple heart Wine Wing, engraved with the ECG’s 25th anniversary logo. Maja enjoyed a glass of champagne courtesy of Brian, our bartender, and I had two delicious Half N Halfs (lemonade and iced tea).
Then, it was back home to get Eden from the babysitter (thanks Nanny!!), and call it a night.
That’s a good Saturday, people. A good Saturday.
